The present:

I love stories, and the ideas and images they can convey and believe in to tell and not read as it aids connecting with the audience which helps me to gauge their interest and enable me to shorten or lengthen each story to suit any particular audience.

It's also more creative as each story evolves slightly each time it is told. It can be adapted, not tied to the words on the page. It also enables the listeners to create their own imaginative pictures and images of the story being told.

My Favourite stories are those with a twist in the tail, some humour e.g., The case of the smell; Coyote and The money tree; and Anansi.

I tell stories that may be traditional, modern or new and original and whatever the occasion or venue, I have a story to tell: During Regattas and shows, community events, at birthday or Halloween parties, weddings, family gatherings, in libraries, school halls, a story tent, fields or forests, on storywalks and even by campfires.  In fact, just about anywhere people are happy to listen

In 2006 I began the Island Storytellers, a group that meets monthly to swap stories.

Island using some of the stories and techniques I will have gleaned while travelling.

I hope to help organise the next IW Storytelling Festival which should take place in May 2008 and for which the Island Storytellers are submitting a grant application to Awards for All.

Also in 2008,  I would like to introduce the Island to Kamishibai storytelling which uses  a kind of puppet theatre attached to the back of a bicycle.

I was born and educated in Southampton. I studied Microbiology at University, worked in Youth Hostels in the Peak District and Norfolk, taught in Kirkby in Merseyside for 7 years, had 3 sons, lived in Wisconsin USA for three years and moved to the Island in 2000.

I have told stories at a number of places and venues over the years:  in art galleries, at the Quay Arts Centre, the Classic Car Festival, the Walking Festival, Apple Days, Big Day Out, Ventnor Botanic Gardens, in various Island schools and home educating groups, for Sure Start, and at last year's Storytelling Festival.
