When would you want to tell a story? And to whom?
Maybe it would be to distract young children from tiredness on a long walk, to work colleagues to get a point across, to friends while sitting round a fire swapping tales and anecdotes, or maybe at Halloween with the lights turned low…..
This storytelling workshop aims to give you a bit more confidence to have a go in just such situations. There will be hints on how to remember stories, a chance to hear several tales and the opportunity to have a go yourself in a non threatening supportive atmosphere.
Sue Bailey has more than ten years teaching experience. She lives in Cowes with her husband and three sons all of whom are becoming adept at telling tales!
‘Try storytelling’ is organised in conjunction with Quay Arts and is part of ‘Wight Words’ which runs between 23rd September and 15th October.
For more information please contact Sue Bailey on 07837 601315.

Rumour has it that William the Conqueror came to the Island in 1068. Do you think it is true?
Have you heard about the German airman shot down during the second world war hitching a lift and cadging a meal in Bowcombe?
How many myths and legends do YOU know about the Island. Sue Bailey leads this storytelling session and retells some of her favourite tales before giving the audience a chance to contribute their local stories. Whether they are true or not, is up to you to decide.
This session is aimed at adults and older children
Sue Bailey lives in Cowes and has been telling stories (some true, some not so true) all her life, but in public for only four years. She is married and has three sons two of whom are now as tall as her and can all tell a mean story.

Have you heard of the ghost ship of the Isle of Wight?
Or the tale of the Santa Lucia that sank off Hamstead?
Do you know why the sea is salty?
There are several theories for the sea's saltiness, at least one of which you can hear at this evening of storytelling on 13th October, at 6 pm in Ryde Studio Theatre at Ryde High School.
You might think that the stories are whitewash but that's not surprising since Wight Wash is the title of this evening of storytelling with local storytellers Marc Tuckey and Sue Bailey, and musicians Bex and Alec Smith. They have put together an evening of tales, poems and songs related to the sea to entertain children and adults alike.
Sue Bailey is a local storyteller seen recently in action on Prince's Green during the Powerboat Event and often appearing at Island events such as Afton Park's Apple Days. For more information please contact Sue on 01983 241095 or 07837 601315
