While photographing powerboats at the Isle of Wight I had the opportunity to both see and hear another storyteller at work on Prince’s Green, Cowes.  Best of all she had no idea I was watching and listening.  This wasn't an audition, just someone doing something they clearly love.

I was impressed because at one point she had the main powerboat event going on less than 200 yards away.  With a collective total of about 60,000 very competitive horsepower roaring and screaming away in the background she still managed to keep a group of children entranced and actively involved.

Sue Bailey is good!  Earlier in the afternoon she'd also had to cope with four aircraft doing a display overhead.

                    What a trouper!

Afterwards I struck up a conversation with her and we swapped a few tales about storytelling and audiences.  One of the great things about meeting other storytellers is that we're all on the same wavelength despite vastly different approached to this oldest of arts.

I suggested that she visit us here at MWC, and hope she takes me up on this.  She could probably give some excellent 'real world' feedback on what modern kids are looking for in stories.

If no one objects I'd like to do a bit of low level advertising and share her web site address for anyone who may wish to hire the lass for storytelling or a workshop.  Her site has all the details and is a good example of how a web site should work.

Bex and Alec Smith are local folk musicians.  This is their first collaboration and promises to be a highly enjoyable evening.
